Proposed tournament in Sapulpa Posted: 07 May 06 11:05 PM (N/A) |

I have been gathering information for 3 seasons about holding a recreational tournament in Sand Springs. There seems to be only a handful of people interested here for some unknown reason.
I had proposed to the board to offer a recreational tournament for U6-U12 (prime tournament age). To get the tournament approved by OSA/GCSA, the paperwork has to be in to their offices by October 1st, to be approved for the NEXT year. So, hypothetically, the paperwork gets turned in October 1st, 2006; that means that the tournament would be held sometime in 2007. And the October cutoff is for tournaments being held in the Fall. I believe that the deadline for Spring is March 1st.
I took it upon myself to contact Big Toe Sports and Eurosport to see if they would be interested in helping us with our tournament; they both said they would love to help out. What they would do is bring their trailers down (something like mini stores) and sell merchandise from them. They would also bring catalogs so people could order at a later date.
There is a company called Planet Soccer that will send a kit to clubs to sell at fundraisers, tournaments, and so on. You would sell however much and send the rest back that didn't sell; the host club would keep the profit on the sold items.
When I was pitching this idea, my main focus was to let the players, parents, friends and coaches to have fun. Something like a Jupiter Jump, juggling contests, inflatable slide (like at Oktoberfest) and so on. That is why I came up with the name of the tournament, "SSSC Soccerfest"; a soccer tournament and festival all rolled into one. It wouldn't be that difficult *hint* to drop one of the "S's"*hint* out of SSSC.
I also found out that one of the best fundraisers to have is a school dance. Baseball and softball teams here in Sand Springs have dances all of the time and they raise anywhere between $3,000 and $5,000. This would be a great boon for any club; helping with field improvements, new goals and nets, allow the club to purchase better uniforms like adidas or Nike for the entire club, and so on.
Another one is those rubber wristbands (like the Live Strong wristbands). Have them printed or embossed with "Sapulpa Soccer" or "SSC soccer" or whatever. They have them now where the rubber is swirled with 2 or 3 colors; would be great to see a royal blue and white bracelet!
I have also brought up the idea of celebrating Youth Soccer Month. This is a program introduced by the US Youth Soccer Association to celebrate soccer in your area. There are guidelines to follow and a truckload of suggestions on how to get people in your area really excited about soccer. You can find all of the information at: http://www.youthsoccermonth.org.
If you hadn't noticed, I was bringing up a bunch of ideas on how to make the SSSC better. Well, my daughter may be trying out for the SFC 96 girls team. I think it would be a much better environment for her and allow her to grow and mature as a soccer player. If she was fortunate enough to make it on the team, I would be more than happy to help soccer in Sapulpa grow as much as possible.
Thanks for your time and if you like what you hear, let me know!

| Love your ideas. I think Sapulpa Soccer could benefit from a soccerfest. Also really excited about fundraiser ideas you had. My daughter plays for the SFC 92 girls competitive team now and she is having a great time. Hope to see you in Sapulpa soon. |
